What a nice surprise this morning!  I opened up the email and discovered that the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast, along with another Joseph Oregon bed and breakfast–Creekside Country Haven–and the 1910 Historic Enterprise House Bed and Breakfast in Enterprise Oregon, have all received the 2014 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence!

(Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance. . . .)

Here’s a little bit of background about how TripAdvisor decides which lodging will receive this annual award (information from TripAdvisor): When selecting Certificate of Excellence winners, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm to determine the honorees that takes into account reviews ratings.  Businesses must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, volume and recency of reviews. Additional criteria include a business’ tenure and popularity ranking on the site.

So, a big shout out to all the guests of Enterprise House, Creekside Country Haven, and the Bronze Antler B&B for taking the time to write a review about your stay.  Bill and I are humbled by your efforts and thrilled by the recognition.  And I’m sure that I speak for all three of our Wallowa County lodging properties when I say that we all appreciate it very much!

Opera Night Fundraiser and Food on Friday, Feb 28th

Benvenuti!

You’ve got to give Chuck Anderson, our honorable Alpenmeister, some credit for very creative fundraising to support the Oregon Alpenfest celebration.  Even though Alpenfest doesn’t happen until late September, he’s out here in February with an Opera Night!

And what do you get?  Opera classics in practically the most remote corner of Oregon, performed by very talented young people, a great dinner, and the opportunity to get out of the house in the middle of winter.  What’s better than that?

Who:  Eastern Oregon University music major students from LaGrande, Oregon, are performing two hours of classic opera selections.

What:  A fundraiser for Oregon’s Alpenfest, a family-friendly, polka-crazy, Swiss-yodeling event that takes place in late September (Sept 25-29 for 2014) in Wallowa County, Oregon, a place that comes closer than anyplace in Oregon to looking like the Swiss Alps.  The towns of Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa Lake are all involved in Alpenfest.

When:  Friday night, February 28, 2014, 7 pm to 9 pm,

Where:  Lear’s Main Street Pub & Grill, 111 W. Main Street, Enterprise, OR,

Cost: Admission including dinner is $25 for adults (drinks extra)

Notes: Reservations at Lear’s are advised.  Phone is (541) 426-3300.

Coming from out of town?  Our Joseph Oregon bed and breakfast has plenty of room available.  Click the Book Now link on the left of this blog to find the perfect lodging for your Eastern Oregon opera night or call us at (541) 432-0230.

Ciao!

Sunny Winters in Joseph Oregon

We handle a lot of phone calls from prospective guests who want to know if the winters are sunny in Joseph, Oregon.  I’m guessing a lot of these folks are from the Seattle, Washington, or Portland, Oregon area, where we hear that the sun shines but the winters are pretty gray..

The answer:  Yes!  Our winters are definitely sunny!  Because we’re in Eastern Oregon we don’t have the clouds that seem to hang on the western side of the Cascade Mountains.  It seems as though we have only a handful of non-sunny days throughout the winter months.

Probably the best place to get a view of how sunny it is here is to take a look at our favorite weather website, Joseph Oregon Weather  The webmaster keeps two cameras trained on the Wallowa Mountains–one to the south and one to the west–that’ll give you an up to the minute view of the current conditions.  Into time lapse photography?  The Weather Movie on the same website gives you the view of how the day is progressing, or you can watch yesterday’s weather movie for a complete view.

Here at the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast our large insulated glass picture window in the dining room is perfect for a view of the sunny winter weather without experiencing the cold.  Sometimes our breakfast guests opt to bring their sunglasses to the table.

And there’s plenty to do around here in winter.  Or nothing.  Your choice.  Type “winter” into the blog search box and you’ll find our posts about things to do in the winter around Joseph, Oregon.  Here’s one to get you started.

Professional Photography at our Eastern Oregon Lodging

Marcus Berg, owner & professional photographer at Unique Angles Photography, is returning to our Eastern Oregon bed and breakfast in early June to update our portfolio of high quality images.  Sure, we can always capture images on our digital camera or our smartphones and they’ll look fine on the Facebook page, but it’s also important for the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast to have high quality “dense” images for magazines and other print advertising.

We’re excited to have Marcus out with us for a few days.  I know it’ll be a lot of work.  A good photo shoot involves lots of preparation.  Beautiful flowers, a variety of props to dress up the guestrooms, a varied menu for food photography–and then there are things we can’t quite control like great weather for exterior photos.  The last time Marcus was here, he & I were up before the dawn to capture images of the bocce court in the north perennial garden of our Wallowa Lake lodging.  Little did I know that watering the bocce court the night before meant I’d need to quickly spray down the rest of the gravel walkways at 5 am!

If you have a chance, take a look at our website photography and send us suggestions on which photos you think should be updated,  What images should we capture that aren’t on the website?  What would best depict our romantic getaway Oregon style?  Send your ideas to info@bronzeantler.com and we’d love to incorporate your ideas.

2013 Oregon Mountain Cruise Car Show in Joseph Oregon Turns Silver

Two classic cars celebrating the 25th Silver Jubilee of the Oregon Mountain Cruise

Oregon Mountain Cruise is the second weekend in June in Joseph Oregon

This year the Oregon Mountain Cruise celebrates its 25th anniversary.  And here at the Bronze Antler Bed & Breakfast we’ve just confirmed that we still have three rooms open (lucky procrastinators–now’s your chance).

If you need any persuading as to why you should choose our Joseph Oregon lodging, here are a few good reasons:

1.  Our lodging provides hotel quality accomodations walking distance to the car show (only one block from downtown Joseph Oregon).

2.  You can spiffy up your car right here in our parking area on Saturday morning right before you pull into the lineup (which takes place right in front of our bed & breakfast right here on Main Street).  Hose provided.

3.  As of today, April 21st,, you have your choice of three lovely rooms:  the Mirror Lake Suite is our luxurious alternative to a Wallowa Lake hotel or any Joseph Oregon hotels.  We’ve been told it’s right up there with the penthouse suite at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.  The Chief Joseph Mountain Room offers a broad view of the mountains to the south.  For the budget conscious, the Sawtooth Mountain Room  offers superb views of the Wallowa Mountains and the largest bathroom on the second floor.  All of our rooms have their own attached private bath (no sharing and no going out in the hall to find the bathroom), plus air conditioning.

4.  AAA member?  As a AAA-rated three-diamond property, we offer a 10% discount on room rates to card carrying AAA members.

5. Extra bonus:  If you stay with us in 2013, then you have first priority for the 2014 car show weekend.

Don’t wait to make your reservation for the nights of June 7 & 8, 2013.  And if you’re coming with a car club, tell your club members so you can all enjoy the convenience of our in town location!
